MORRISTOWN CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
    Work Session/Special Meeting
    January 19, 2010
     

    Members Present:  Mayor Kurt Wolf, Council members Matt Valentyn, Jeff Lang and Lisa Karsten 

    Absent: Verdis Flaten 

    Others Present:   Becky Kuball, City Clerk/Treasurer, Dave Sanderson PeopleServices, Rich Revering, Bolton & Menk representative, Dave Osborne Police Chief, Jack Schwichtenberg, Dan Morris, Loren Dahle, Adam Kordiak, Herb Kruger, Tim Minske Maintenance.

    A work session/special meeting of the Morristown City Council was called to order on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 402 Division Street South by Mayor Kurt Wolf.

    The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.    

    PeopleServices Report:
    Sanderson stated he fixed a cover that was damaged in snow removal. There was a petroleum smell at the waste plant, and it seems to have disappeared.
    Sludge pump went out over the Christmas weekend. Kruger had 4 estimates on a new pump.

    Motion by Lang seconded by Valentyn and motion carries to purchase the 5 hp KSB pump for $3800 plus tax.

    Motion by Valentyn seconded by Wolf and motion carries to accept the PeopleServices report as presented.

    Skywarn Report:
    Motion by Lang seconded by Valentyn, motion carries to accept the Skywarn Report as printed.

    Community Center Report
    Motion by Karsten, Seconded by Valentyn, motion carries to accept the Community Center report as written.

    Maintenance Report:  
    Minske stated that the transmission is out on the City Truck. Minske got 3 bids for transmissions two from Wholesale and one from Nordmeier’s. 

    Motion by Valentyn seconded by Karsten, motion carries to purchase the transmission from Wholesale Tire for $3379 with a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty.

    Minske climbed the water tower last week and the water is frozen up on the top. Wondering what can be done to prevent this. Kruger stated that they could look into adjusting the cycle, but by adjusting it, it could affect the pressure within the city. PeopleServices will keep an eye on it.

    Council questioned who pays for the removal of the pile of snow in the parking lot behind Nordmeier’s. Minske stated that Dahles talked with the owner of Morris Mart and the owner said he will pay for a portion of the removal. Dahles will send the rest of the bill to the city and they can decide what they want to do with the rest of it.

    Motion by Lang and seconded by Karsten, motion carries to accept the Maintenance report as presents.
     

    EDA

    Motion by Lang seconded by Valentyn and motion carries to accept the EDA report as written.

    Unfinished Business:
    Wellhead protection was discussed. Adam Kordiak discussed the Phasing schedule, Morristown was at 650 and it will be 1-2 years before they will bring in smaller towns like Morristown. The plan that we have right now is a common plan. The Department of Health will get in touch with us when they move forward with a plan. 

    Nims Classes Kuball received an email from Jennifer Hauer and she stated that the training can be done on line. Hauer stated she would let me know if they decide to do an in person class.

    Cost of living raises tabled.

    New Business:
    Water shut offs: None

    Cannon Valley Players: Morris stated that the Cannon Valley Players would like to purchase some more speakers for the great hall, along with some scaffolding.  They were also wondering if they could use the hall after the rabbit show in January to start setting up for the play that is scheduled for February 19-21.
    It was agreed to let the Cannon Valley Players set up the play early.

    Motion by Lang seconded by Valentyn motions carries to let the Cannon Valley Players purchase the speakers and scaffolding for the community center.

    Motion by Valentyn seconded by Karsten motion carries to accept the Red Flag Policy as printed.
    Lang abstained from voting.

    Motion by Lang seconded by Karsten motion carries to approve the claims and accounts for January 19, 2010 as written.

    Correspondence and Announcements:
    Kuball stated that the Audit is January 25-27

    Kuball stated that there will be an H1N1 flu clinic at the Community Center on February 2, 2010. 

    Karsten asked Osborne if there was a deadline for completion of the alcohol server training.

    Motion by Valentyn seconded by Lang motion carries to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
