The Old Mill Stream
STOP and watch Sunday afternoon during
the Dam Days festival as the historical society
opens the watergate and powers up the 139
year old grinding mill.
Inside;
the charming waterwheel-powered stone modernized the 1860s
The Farmers no longer had to travel for days just to get their grain ground
to flour.
They now could in just a few hours have flour to make their bread, and
pies etc.
The Morristown mill produced good-quality flour.
Built by The Morris brothers
in 1860, adding several stories they could now
grind corn, buckwheat, and rye into flour. In the 1930s equipment for
grinding cattle feed was installed and used until it closed in 1989.
The Mill sits west of the Dam and is on the north
end of the Cities Cannon River Park system.
The fresh water that
runs from the Dam through the park
make an ideal family fishing area.
Easy Parking and picnic areas makes Morristown an ideal spot for
your Sunday family outing.
